Will the ST timer effects work if the AY8930 is on a cartridge? |

Also i have not modified the volume in those recordings, this is exactly how differnt they sound to each other. |

Two recordings by me. One origianl YM setup and the other AY8930 without the cap. http://www.ym2149.com/stand_by_YM_AY_recording.zip (40 mb, FLAC) |

Another hint for the AY/YM comparison: Set the YM MP3 recording to +100% (i.e. in iTunes) - then the experience of the recordings (AY unmuffled, YM original) is quite the same! |

First of all - thanks for your action and taking part! @gwem: It´s C10 in the schematics you linked below. This cap just represents a low-pass filter (higher freq´s are suppressed). You won´t get more bass with/without it - just in the total mix of all output setting 100% amplitude is different with/without the cap. So in relation it might _seem_ that there´s less bass without the cap - in reality it´s the same absolute amount of bass frequencies, but more absolute contents of higher freuqncies (that´s what "unmuffling" is about here ;-) My hint is: Go hear it on an original system without any recording stage in between and (important!) on YOUR amplifier and loudspeakers. That´s the real thing for all comparisons... @Stefan: Of course it´s possible to find the right individual cap for everyone´s taste. Just experiment with any value between -say- 10nF to 100nF. I´m fine with no cap at the moment. As said before - try the real hardware without any additional (recording) stages in the audio path. |

i mean of course modded AY sounds a bit brighter than default YM |

if anything the capacitor removed version is a bit brighter. the difference between the muffled and unmuffled versions in massive. is it c10 or c8 on these schematics? http://dev-docs.atariforge.org/files/1040ST_Schematic_12-26-1987.pdf i guess c10? maybe a bit of experimentation might be nice to find a better match what is the real difference in volume between YM and AY, in these clips the AY one is alot louder, making comparison harder. |
